Nairobi · Buying guide

Everything to know before you buy a projector.

Spec sheets are noisy and most buying guides just repeat the marketing. Here’s what actually decides whether a projector earns its shelf space — with our CR35 Portable Projector as the reference point.

Built like an instrument

Not every “portable projector” is built the same way.

A multi-element glass lens, a sealed dustproof light path, and a physical focus ring are what separate a projector that still looks sharp in three years from one that dims and blotches within months.

Before you reach for your wallet

Five things that actually matter.

Skip the marketing lumens. These are the specs worth checking against your room.

01

ANSI lumens

Marketing lumens are inflated; ANSI lumens are measured honestly. 300 ANSI suits evening and low-light rooms — for daylight use, plan to dim the room or look higher.

02

Native resolution

“Supports 1080p” means it accepts the signal, not that every pixel is native. Ask about the panel’s native resolution if crisp text matters to you.

03

Throw distance

Distance from the wall dictates image size and brightness together. Measure your room before you buy, not after.

04

Connectivity

HDMI and USB cover laptops and TV sticks; WiFi and mirroring cover phones. A unit that only does one will frustrate half your use cases.

Inside the CR35

What you’re actually paying for.

01 / Optics

Optical glass lens

A multi-element glass stack rather than plastic optics keeps the image sharper across the frame and holds up over years of use.

02 / Durability

Airtight, dustproof engine

The lamp and optical path are sealed against dust — the biggest cause of dimming and blotchy images in budget projectors over time.

03 / Control

Manual focusing ring

A physical focus wheel on the top edge gives fine, repeatable control — faster to dial in than menu-based digital focus.

04 / Wireless

5G / 2.4G WiFi mirroring

Cast a phone or laptop screen directly with no cables, alongside wired HDMI and USB for sticks, consoles, and drives.

05 / Sound

Doubles as a speaker

The built-in speaker handles a bedroom or small huddle room on its own, and pairs as a Bluetooth speaker when the lamp is off.

06 / Portability

Carry handle, sub-2kg body

Moves between rooms without a case — useful if it isn’t staying mounted in one place permanently.

Our approach

“We recommend what genuinely fits a client’s needs and budget — not whatever earns us the most commission. That’s the whole reason people come back.”— Teledyne Enterprises Ltd

Before you reach out

Common questions.

Can I see the CR35 demonstrated before buying?

Yes — every projector is demonstrated live in-store so you can confirm brightness, resolution, and phone compatibility.

Will 300 ANSI lumens be bright enough for my room?

It’s comfortable for evenings and low-light rooms. For daytime use in a bright room, plan to dim it or ask us about brighter alternatives.

Does it work with a laptop that has no HDMI port?

Yes — connect over WiFi with screen mirroring, or via USB depending on your laptop’s outputs.

What happens if a unit develops a fault?

Manufacturer warranty terms are handled directly through us — call the number below and we take it from there.

Get started

Tell us what you need.

Send us your room size and how you’ll use it — home cinema, classroom or boardroom — and we’ll recommend the right projector, not just the CR35.
